Channel 5's detective drama Ellis returned for its second season earlier this month, with episodes three and four airing on March 17 and 18. The series follows DCI Ellis (Sharon D Clarke) and DS Harper (Andrew Gower) as they investigate crimes across the north of England, though filming takes place in Northern Ireland.
The upcoming episodes take the team to the fictional village of Elmsly, where university student Abi Marshall is found dead beneath fallen scaffolding at Quinn Artisan Stone. In reality, Elmsly was created using two real villages: Downpatrick and Drumaness.
Downpatrick, said to be the burial place of Saint Patrick, provided the setting for the police station and the Quinn family home, thanks to its Georgian brick buildings. Drumaness, a historical mill village, was used for Abi Marshall's house and her memorial.
The stone works, fictionally named Quinn Heritage Stone, were filmed at a family-run building supplies company on the outskirts of Belfast. Andrew Gower praised the Northern Irish landscape, saying: 'The landscape is amazing. It gives you everything you need. You’ve got the hills, the beaches, the industry.'
Ellis season 2 continues Tuesday, March 17 and Wednesday, March 18 at 9pm on Channel 5.
