Channel 4's acclaimed documentary series Educating Yorkshire is reportedly making a comeback with a new series set to air in 2027. The show, which originally premiered in 2013, captured viewers' hearts with its intimate portrayal of life at Thornhill Community Academy in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.
Popular Series to Enter Pre-Production
According to TVZone, the upcoming season is about to enter pre-production, with cameras expected to roll in September as schools reopen after the summer break. While Channel 4 has not officially confirmed the news, the report suggests the show will return for another series in 2027.
The original series was a massive hit, particularly following the journey of Year 11 pupil Musharaf Asghar, who overcame his stammer with support from his English teacher, Mr Burton. The programme returned last year for a follow-up instalment, which saw Mr Burton having become the headteacher.
Challenges Facing Modern Schools
A synopsis for the second series highlighted the challenges faced by the school: "Supported by a new team of heroic staff, he has a lot on his plate. The school is on the up but, like all schools in Britain, there are challenges at every turn." These challenges included rising teenage anxiety, exam and friendship pressure, a national attendance crisis, and the impact of mobile phones and social media. The synopsis also noted that nationally, nearly a third of teachers leave the profession within five years.
