EastEnders actress Kitty Castledine has teased the future of Penny Branning and Vinny Panesar following news of a pregnancy storyline. The couple, who have never crossed paths on the Square before, are set to face a baby bombshell next week that could confirm a fan theory about a flashforward scene.
In January, viewers saw a glimpse of 2027, which included a mystery baby named Ethan being cared for by Jack Branning. Fans speculated the child could be Penny and Vinny's, and new spoilers suggest this is possible as Penny announces she is pregnant.
Castledine, who plays Penny, shared insights into the relationship: 'They have never crossed paths on the Square, despite the numerous dramas between the Panesars and the Brannings in the past. But none of that matters when it comes to Penny and Vinny, as he's everything Penny has never had in a relationship.' She added that Vinny brings out a softer side of Penny.
However, the actress hinted that Penny may struggle with the pregnancy news. 'She wants to bury her head in the sand and hide from the reality of potentially being pregnant. The idea of becoming not only a young mum, but a young mum who is disabled, is something she isn’t ready to face,' Castledine said.
Whether Penny goes through with the pregnancy remains to be seen, leaving the fate of baby Ethan uncertain. EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
