EastEnders fans have voiced strong demands for Rita Simons to reprise her role as Roxy Mitchell, following the actress's announcement that she is leaving Hollyoaks. Simons confirmed on Instagram that she will depart the Channel 4 soap in autumn, after playing Marie Fielding for two years.
In her post, Simons wrote: 'Since Marie Fielding stepped into Hollyoaks village, she’s sufficiently messed up all her boys lives... so her job here is done! I’m going to be saying bye bye in the autumn.' She added that her time in Liverpool had 'healed' her after a hysterectomy, but now 'London and my true home is calling'.
Despite her character Roxy Mitchell being killed off in 2017 alongside sister Ronnie, fans are urging a return. Comments on her post included: 'Please say this means a return of iconic Roxy Mitchell in Walford' and 'We need Roxy to return... we never saw her in a coffin'. Some noted that Simons used the same song as Zoe Slater's return, hinting at a possible resurrection.
Simons teased that Marie still has 'a bit more carnage and a few laughs to unleash' before her exit, but fans are already looking ahead to a potential EastEnders comeback.
