EastEnders will not air on BBC One on Monday night due to the FA Cup match between Manchester United and Aston Villa being broadcast instead from 7:30pm to 10pm. The schedule change is part of a shake-up that also affected Coronation Street last week.
However, fans need not worry about missing out on episodes. Instead, viewers will be treated to an unusual double bill on Tuesday evening, with two episodes airing back-to-back from 7:30pm to 8:20pm.
Many fans expressed excitement on social media about the double bill. One Twitter user wrote: 'There is no episode of #Eastenders tonight because of the football, but two episodes tomorrow.' Another commented: 'NO #EastEnders tonight but 2 episodes tomorrow!'
Not everyone was pleased, however, with one fan lamenting: 'Tonight's EastEnders is cancelled what am I going to do now.'
The schedule change comes after bosses confirmed the show would return to three full-length episodes and one shorter episode per week, for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic affected filming in 2020. Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays will now be 30-minute episodes, while Tuesdays remain 20 minutes.
EastEnders airs Mondays and Fridays at 8pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One.
