EastEnders is set to air a special flashforward episode on New Year's Day, giving viewers a glimpse into the dramatic events of 2027. The 30-minute instalment will centre on long-running character Max Branning, played by Jake Wood, as he faces a situation with huge consequences for his family.
Executive producer Ben Wadey described the episode as unprecedented in the show's history. 'For the first time, we're offering an entire flashforward episode set on New Year's Day 2027,' he said. '2026 is going to be full of drama, especially for the Brannings, and the episode will raise questions about how Max has got himself and his family into such predicaments.'
The flashforward follows a similar technique used in February 2023, when a scene teased the 2023 Christmas Day storyline. Earlier this year, EastEnders also aired a live episode where viewers voted on the outcome of a love story involving Denise Fox.
Max Branning first arrived in Walford in June 2006 and departed in 2021 before returning earlier this year. In July, it was announced that his son Oscar, played by Pierre Moullier, would also return after eight years away.
