The unique instalment, set to air on 1st January 2026, will be a 30-minute special that transports the audience directly to the year 2027. This marks the first time in the show's history that an entire episode will be dedicated to a flashforward narrative.
At the heart of this futuristic glimpse is long-serving character Max Branning, portrayed by actor Jake Wood. The episode will centre on Max and the significant repercussions his actions have for his entire family, promising high-stakes drama for the residents of Walford.
Producers Promise a Huge Twist
Executive producer Ben Wadey has teased that the episode is designed to leave fans with burning questions about Max's predicament. Producers have hinted that "all is not what it seems", suggesting a major twist is in store.
This innovative approach follows a previous experiment with the format, when the show aired a single flashforward scene in February 2023 that ultimately teased its Christmas Day storyline later that year. This New Year's Day special, however, represents a full commitment to the ambitious technique.
