EastEnders executive producer Ben Wadey has promised viewers an explosive autumn in Walford, with the Slater family set to dominate screens. Speaking about upcoming storylines, Wadey revealed that Zoe Slater's return will bring dramatic revelations and tensions within the family.
Zoe and Kat's relationship is particularly complex, with 20 years of history to work through. "Kat's been expecting one thing, but meeting your adult daughter is far more complex than she imagines," Wadey explained. Zoe is hiding secrets of her own, which will cause further upheaval.
The drama intensifies with the revelation of a past romantic relationship between Zoe and Max Branning. Flashbacks showed Max offering Zoe financial assistance during her darkest hour, setting the stage for his return to the Square. Wadey hinted at the fallout: "You've got the Brannings to discover, you've got the rest of the Slaters to discover, what's Stacey gonna think? It's this bomb that's going to just blow."
Rumours are also swirling about a potential return for Tanya Branning. Wadey acknowledged Jo Joyner's talent but said the current focus is on Max. Actor Scott Maslen added, "We need him back for a while, and then Jo to come and sort the rest of them out." Jake Wood hinted at ongoing contact with Joyner, suggesting a return might be on the cards.
With Max's return and Zoe's secrets threatening to unravel, the Slaters and Brannings are in for a turbulent autumn. Wadey promised plenty of drama ahead, as secrets have a way of coming out in Walford at the worst possible moments.
