Paramount+ spin-off Dutton Ranch has debuted to widespread acclaim, with fans declaring it superior to its predecessor Yellowstone. The series follows Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) as they rebuild their lives after a devastating wildfire destroys their Montana ranch.
The premiere episode opens with the couple enjoying their new life, only for a wildfire to wipe out everything within minutes. Six months later, they are shown starting over in Rio Paloma, Texas. This opening sequence has been praised as 'the best opening of a show in years' by viewers.
Social media reactions have been overwhelmingly positive. One fan wrote on X: 'Opening scene of #Yellowstone [spin-off] has me weak!' Another stated: 'I'm going to go ahead and say it. Dutton Ranch is better than Yellowstone.' A third commented: 'WOW! The 15 minute Dutton Ranch opening is equal to if not better than the 17 minute Yellowstone Season four opening.'
Dutton Ranch is the latest addition to Taylor Sheridan's expanding Yellowstone universe, which includes prequels 1883 and 1923, as well as the newly released Marshals. Future spin-offs announced include 1944, set during World War II, and 6666, set at the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas.
