In a revelation that has sent shockwaves through the Downton Abbey fandom, former star Ed Speleers has candidly disclosed that he was unexpectedly sacked from the globally renowned period drama.
The actor, who portrayed the ambitious footman Jimmy Kent in the third and fourth series of the ITV hit, made the startling admission during a recent podcast appearance, contradicting the long-held assumption that his departure was a creative decision.
A Career Cut Short at the Abbey
Speleers revealed his exit was far from the graceful narrative often associated with the show. "I got fired," he stated bluntly, explaining that the producers felt his character's storyline had run its natural course after a dramatic plot involving a wrongful assault accusation against him by the valet, Mr. Bates.
"I think they felt that they'd done the storyline with the assault and then Bates... and then it was kind of like, 'Okay, well, what do we do with him? Let's get rid,'" Speleers recounted. The news was delivered to him directly by the show's executive producer, Gareth Neame.
From Downton Disappointment to Hollywood Heights
Despite the professional setback, Speleers' career has soared to remarkable new heights. The British actor has since landed major roles in some of the world's biggest franchises.
