Disney+ has cancelled the horror anthology series 'Goosebumps' after two seasons, Variety has learned exclusively. The show, based on R.L. Stine's book series, debuted in October 2023 with a 10-episode first season, followed by an eight-episode second season in January 2025.
According to a source, producer Sony Pictures Television plans to shop the series to other outlets and explore new creative directions for the IP. The two seasons collectively amassed 75 million hours viewed in the U.S. and 43 million hours across 16 international markets.
Each season drew from multiple entries in Stine's books. Season 1 followed five high schoolers uncovering a mystery around a teen who died decades earlier, starring Justin Long and Rachael Harris. Season 2 centred on fraternal twins and their botanist father, featuring David Schwimmer and Ana Ortiz.
Nicholas Stoller and Rob Letterman developed the series, with Hilary Winston as showrunner. Sony Pictures Television Studios produced the show for Disney Branded Television. The 'Goosebumps' book series, published by Scholastic, has sold over 400 million copies in English and been adapted into a 1990s TV series and two films.
