The BBC has confirmed a new spin-off of the hit comedy series Motherland, titled Amandaland, which will focus on the character Amanda, played by Lucy Punch. The six-part series, produced by Merman, is set to air on BBC One and iPlayer.
Following her divorce, Amanda has downsized and moved to South Harlesden, or 'SoHa' as the estate agent calls it. She now faces the challenges of raising teenagers, including teenage drinking, fake Instagram accounts, and eco anxiety, while dealing with her mother Felicity, played by Joanna Lumley, who is in denial about her loneliness.
Anne (Philippa Dunne) returns as Amanda's assistant, helping her navigate the social scene at the children's new school. The series is written by Holly Walsh, Helen Serafinowicz, and Barunka O'Shaughnessy, with executive producers including Sharon Horgan and Clelia Mountford.
Tanya Qureshi, Head of Comedy at the BBC, expressed excitement about continuing the story, while Sharon Horgan noted the opportunity to explore new aspects of parenthood and friendship. Lionsgate will handle worldwide distribution.
