Devil Wears Prada 2 Director Hints at Threequel After Sequel's Success

David Frankel, director of 'The Devil Wears Prada 2', has revealed that a third film is increasingly likely after the sequel grossed $300 million globally in its first two weeks. Speaking about the possibility, Frankel said: 'I said, 'Never again,' and here we are. So, I certainly would never say, 'Never again,' again.'

The sequel reunites original cast members Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. Hathaway described the experience as 'getting the band back together for a new album and going on tour and playing the new songs, but the audience also wants to hear the old hits.' Frankel noted that the creative team carefully balanced callbacks to the 2006 original with new material, editing out some references to avoid annoying audiences.

Key callbacks include the cerulean sweater monologue and lines like 'A million girls would kill for this job.' The film's climax features a dramatic scene in a Milan hotel room, actually shot in New York with visual effects. Frankel highlighted two scenes set around a replica of Leonardo da Vinci's 'The Last Supper', built because the real museum would not allow candlelit dinners. The scenes explore the battle between human creativity and technological change.

The film ends on a hopeful note, with Miranda, Andy and Nigel securing the magazine's future through independent wealth from Sasha Barnes (Lucy Liu), while Emily seeks redemption at Coach. Frankel said the ending leaves 'plenty of runway to plot out a threequel.'
