The BBC's Destination X faced a wave of complaints after the third episode aired on Wednesday, with fans criticising contestant Saskia for mocking her co-star Daren's suggestion that giant red balls on a roundabout resembled meatballs. The show, hosted by Rob Brydon, sees contestants transported to secret European destinations and challenged to deduce their location through clues.
Minutes into the episode, Daren, a 58-year-old taxi driver, proposed that the red balls could be meatballs, adding: 'If there was a bit of spaghetti sticking out somewhere?' Saskia, 25, laughed and responded: 'Wait, Daz, you think that was spaghetti and meatballs?' Judith defended Daren, saying he was interpreting the clue, but Daren later admitted to the camera that he felt 'ridiculed' and had lost confidence.
Viewers took to social media to express their anger at Saskia's behaviour. One wrote: 'Saskia is quick to laugh at Daren’s meatballs suggestion but she’s literally offering nothing.' Another said: 'Saskia is a cocky condescending t**t laughing at Daren’s meatballs.' A third added: 'Saskia laughing at Daren for his suggestion, the attitude after offering nothing herself is shocking!'
The episode also featured a twist where James, a 23-year-old e-commerce manager, was eliminated after Josh chose to save Daren. James expressed frustration, saying: 'I'd have expected to be saved and I do feel a bit blindsided by Josh.'
