Denise Richards and Casper Van Dien have reunited on set for the first time since starring together in the 1997 sci-fi film Starship Troopers. The actors are working on a new project titled Key To Freedom, as revealed in a video Richards posted to social media.
In the clip, Richards announced: 'We are working together for the first time since Starship Troopers. We're not gonna say how long ago that was.' Van Dien joked: 'A couple of days ago. We were young.' Richards added: 'Exactly – a few years ago.' The pair were filming near Toronto, with Richards commenting: 'I like these Canadians.'
Richards captioned the video: 'Reunited on set together with @caspervandien for the first time since #starshiptroopers.' Van Dien responded: 'I am so happy to be working with you again. You are the best.' Fans expressed delight, with one writing: 'HOLY AWESOME!!! Love this!!! I was a huge Starship Troopers fan!!'
Reflecting on her role as Carmen in Starship Troopers, Richards previously told The Guardian: 'I love my character, and the fans seem to appreciate [that] she's a strong woman.' Van Dien has also noted the enduring popularity of the film, saying in 2023: 'I still get folks yelling quotes at me from it.' The duo last reunited publicly at a Chicago Comic Con panel in spring 2023.
