Delta Goodrem has been given the all clear to return to Strictly Come Dancing this weekend after a rib injury forced her to withdraw from last week's live performance. The BBC confirmed her comeback in a statement, saying: "Following her bye last week due to injury, we're delighted to confirm Delta has been given the all clear to dance again this weekend."
Body Language Expert Warns of 'Eurovision Curse'
Before her injury, body language specialist Judi James suggested Delta might face difficulties in the competition. Speaking to Paddy Power, she said: "Delta currently looks set to suffer from the Eurovision curse and Kai Widdrington will need to work quickly to avoid the same fate for her."
James compared Delta's situation to her performance at the Eurovision Song Contest, where she was "perfect" but lost out to acts that seemed "new, different and emotionally stimulating for the audience." She added: "Winning and charisma is all about the science of sensation i.e. it's how you make your voting audience feel. Delta is so good she creates feelings of admiration but if, say, Shaun [Wright-Phillips] gradually and surprisingly got anywhere near her level of dance the audience would probably be in the same state of sensation as if their football team scored five goals in the World Cup."
Delta's Signature Body Language
James noted that Delta's signature body language off the dancefloor is "a constant hand on the chest, near or over the heart, showing love, thanks and signalled sincerity." She warned that Kai needs to translate that into something more real, or fans might "start voting her into the dance-off just to create that 'response realness and rawness' themselves."
Fans Show Support After Injury Update
Delta shared an update on Instagram, thanking fans for their support. Posting a photograph of herself resting in bed, she wrote: "Just wanted to come on here and say a big Thank you to everyone who has sent messages and wrote lovely comments the last couple of days, I see them all." She added: "Not the start to the week I'd hoped for but your support has meant the world Also special big thank you to my amazing dance partner @kaiwidd who I will miss dancing with this weekend but I am so beyond grateful for his guidance and friendship through it all.. aswell as the wonderful Strictly team! Resting and recovering at home and will be cheering everyone on from my couch on Saturday night xx."
Fellow stars and fans flooded Delta with messages, including Dannii Minogue, who wrote: "I am absolutely gutted for you. Rest up now - sparkle again soon." Dani Dyer said: "Rest up angel," while another follower wrote: "Sending love D! ! ! We're all behind you! ! ! Xxxx." Someone else added: "Get well soon our queen."
