Netflix has added the critically acclaimed film The Outrun to its library, available for streaming in the UK and US from Tuesday, 18th March. The drama, based on Amy Liptrot's memoir, follows a young woman's battle with addiction and her return to the Orkney Islands after rehab.
Saoirse Ronan stars as Rona, delivering what many fans and critics are calling her finest performance. The film also features Stephen Dillane as her mentally ill father Andrew and Saskia Reeves as her devout mother Annie. Despite widespread praise, Ronan did not receive an Oscar nomination for the role, leading to outcry among viewers.
One fan wrote: 'Saoirse is at her very best. If she doesn't get an Oscar for this one I will be very surprised.' Another described her performance as 'one of the best, most breathtaking performances I have ever seen.' The film holds a five-star rating on Letterboxd, with one review calling it 'a quiet and very beautiful movie, filled with raw emotion.'
Ronan, known for roles in Lady Bird, Brooklyn, and The Grand Budapest Hotel, has been praised for her courageous portrayal of addiction. The film's direction and cinematography have also been lauded, with one viewer noting 'all the planets align' in this production.
