Debbie McGee has revealed she has been partying again after completing treatment for breast cancer. The 60-year-old former magician's assistant told ITV's This Morning that she feels free to celebrate after doctors gave her the all-clear following successful surgery.
Appearing on the daytime show on Tuesday, McGee said: 'The doctor said there was no reason to have a mastectomy. I am so, so lucky, that is why I am partying because she came back a week later and said you don’t need anything else – just get better.'
The former Strictly Come Dancing star also claimed she believed the cancer was caused by stress after years of anxiety following her husband Paul Daniels' death. She explained how her battle has been made harder as she has had to go through it alone, saying: 'I just think in the last three years I’ve gone through more stress than I’ve ever been through in my life.'
McGee urged women to attend mammograms and smear tests, crediting these for catching her DCIS condition early. She said: 'Since I was in my 20s I've always had regular smear tests and mammograms... This time it proved it was worth going.' Her surgery was non-invasive, and she has been told no further treatment is needed at this stage.
