Filming on the third season of the Death in Paradise spin-off Return to Paradise has officially wrapped, star Anna Samson has confirmed. The actress, who plays DS Mackenzie Clarke, shared the news on Instagram alongside behind-the-scenes photos with cast members.
Samson described the upcoming season as “bigger and braver,” adding that it “asks more of its characters than ever.” She also joked about the challenges of filming, saying: “I barely took any photos because there were so many murders and waistcoats to be getting on with.”
The BBC previously hinted that season three will see Mackenzie struggling with the aftermath of the dramatic season two finale. A synopsis reveals she is “determined never to follow her heart again,” but the arrival of her mother Jillian (Kerry Armstrong) and a new pathologist Leo (Jacob Collins-Levy) complicate matters.
Fans have expressed excitement for the new series, with some calling for a crossover with Beyond Paradise or the original Death in Paradise. The second season was praised by viewers as “better than Death in Paradise” and “unexpectedly excellent.”
Seasons one and two of Return to Paradise are currently available on BBC iPlayer. A release date for season three has not yet been announced.
