Death in Paradise: Ralf Little's Neville Parker Returns

Death in Paradise fans will see Ralf Little return as DI Neville Parker on Monday night, when the BBC airs a repeat episode from series 12. Little, who played the show's longest-serving detective, will be joined by Tahj Miles as Officer Marlon Pryce and Ginny Holder as Officer Darlene Curtis. Shantol Jackson also returns as Naomi Thomas.

Episode Synopsis from Series 12

The synopsis for the episode reads: "The team investigates a survivalist commune when one of its members is poisoned inside a locked bunker. However, with CCTV footage showing that no one went in or came out while he was in there, it seems likely that he has taken his own life - or has he? Meanwhile, Neville has a series of adventurous dates with Sophie."

Neville's love interest Sophie also appears in the episode. Neville joined the Saint Marie police team in 2020, taking over from DI Jack Mooney (Ardal O'Hanlon). His four-year tenure as Detective Inspector saw him overcome his allergies, aversions to the sun, and even an attempt to frame him for murder to become Saint Marie's longest-serving sleuth.

Little's Exit and Replacement

Little left Death in Paradise in 2024, with his character sailing off into the sunset with his love, Florence Cassell. He and the show's producers mutually agreed that his character's narrative journey had reached a natural and satisfying conclusion.

Little was replaced by Don Gilet, who plays DI Mervin Wilson. Tim Key, Executive Producer for Red Planet Pictures, said at the time: "Joining a successful show like Death in Paradise as the lead is a daunting and risky prospect, but Ralf's confidence and talent shone through from day one, and the audience response to Neville and his journey has been amazing. I can't thank Ralf enough for everything he has brought to the show, on and off screen, and wish him all the very best for the future."

Other Recent Repeats and Spin-off

This is not the first time the BBC has aired a repeat of Death in Paradise. Last month, Kris Marshall and Ardal O'Hanlon appeared as DI Humphrey Goodman and DI Jack Mooney. In September, the programme's Instagram account announced a watch-along of series six, episodes five and six, featuring Kris Marshall alongside Josephine Jobert as DS Florence Cassell.

Fans can also see Kris on the Death in Paradise spin-off, Beyond Paradise, which is set in the fictional town of Shipton Abbott. Death in Paradise is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
