Death in Paradise Fans Expose Huge Twist for DI Mervin Wilson

DI Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet) faces a series of baffling cases as he continues to adjust to life in Saint Marie in the new series of Death in Paradise. The detective also struggles to connect with his recently discovered half-brother Solomon (Daniel Ward), finding they are not as similar as he hoped.

Returning Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) confronts the impact of his absence, determined to win back the island's trust after tough love from old friend Catherine Bordey (Elizabeth Bourgine). Meanwhile, DS Naomi Thomas (Shantol Jackson) and Officer Sebastian Rose (Shaquille Ali-Yebuah) help new recruit Sergeant Mattie Fletcher (Catherine Garton) settle in, though shadows from her past begin to emerge.

Sergeant Mattie Fletcher is described as a rebel with more experience than Officer Rose, bringing a nurturing yet rebellious dynamic to the team. Mervin, while still occasionally at odds with his colleagues, has begun to gel with them, though his frustration now focuses on cracking cases rather than personal conflicts.

In a lighthearted twist, Mervin loses his clothes and must wear substitutes, leading to amusing moments that also serve a narrative purpose. The discovery of his half-brother Solomon forces Mervin to stay on the island, as he cannot turn his back on newfound family. However, Solomon proves to be very different from Mervin, potentially even on the wrong side of the law.

New episodes of Death in Paradise air on iPlayer and BBC One from Friday 30 January at 9pm.
