Death in Paradise Fans Demand Spin-Off for Florence and Neville

Death in Paradise fans are demanding a new spin-off as they call for the return of a beloved character duo. The long-running BBC show first started back in 2011 and has seen a number of actors front the series over the years.

Fan Favourites Florence and Neville

For over a decade, BBC viewers have watched countless unusual crimes unfold on the fictional island of Saint Marie as the police force works together to solve each case. Death in Paradise has been a huge hit with fans since it first aired, with the likes of Don Miller, Kris Marshall, Ardal O'Hanlon, Ralf Little and Don Gilet taking turns as the lead detective.

Since the original series aired, there have been two spin-offs that have been equally popular. Beyond Paradise follows DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) in his life away from the Caribbean with his wife Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton). More recently, the BBC launched Return to Paradise, following DI Mackenzie Clarke (Anna Samson) as she returns to her hometown of Dolphin Cove in Australia.

Reddit Sparks Spin-Off Debate

With two spin-offs already huge hits, one fan on Reddit questioned the potential for other shows. They asked: "So, Beyond Paradise is a spin-off for this great show. If there were to be another spin-off, who would you like to see on it as DI? Commissioner (promotion for a DI?) and any of the team members, past, present, or future? Also, WHERE would you like to see it filmed? What kind of vibe are we looking for?"

It wasn't long before fans responded, with one urging the return of fan-favourites Florence and Neville. They said: "Honestly, I'd love to see Florence and Neville solving crimes while on their permanent vacation. Each new location, a new mystery that only they can solve." Many agreed with the idea of Ralf Little and Joséphine Jobert reprising their roles. One person responded: "That would be pretty cool, actually." Another added: "Great idea. Sort of like Good Ship Murder."

Selwyn Prequel Also Suggested

However, someone else thinks the spotlight should be on Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, calling for a prequel series. They wrote: "A series set in the 70s and 80s that focuses on a young Selwyn, not as lead detective, but as a DC/DS. It would give us a few points of uniqueness. The show is focused on someone other than the lead detective. It's a period piece. We get to see Selwyn's career as he develops from rough-around-the-edges new recruit uniform officer, we see his marriage, and its breakdown, and his friend Catherine, who is saving to buy a bar."

Death in Paradise is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
