Deal or No Deal Winner Reveals Unaired Detail 20 Years On

A former Deal or No Deal contestant has revealed an unaired detail from the show that will surprise fans. Lynne Hackles, a writer from Pembrokeshire, won £75,000 on the programme in 2006 by sticking with her box, leaving host Noel Edmonds speechless.

How the Boxes Were Really Chosen

Speaking to OLBG about her game show experience, Lynne explained that the selection process was not shown on television. "I think the way the boxes are chosen is surprising because they'd bring around a bag of ping pong balls with the numbers on 1 to 22, and we had to pick a ball out," she said. "And then they would write your name and the number of the ball you'd taken, so you wouldn't say to your neighbour. That was the bit that you don't see on television."

Life After the Big Win

After her win, Lynne and her husband Colin used some of the money to buy an American Winnebago motor home. "A local man did the decoration and details for me. So, I had my red box with the number 8 on it inside, and he had a Deal or No Deal sticker as well, so that went on it," she added.

Stephen Mulhern Praised by Contestant

The hit show, originally on Channel 4 from 2005 to 2016, was rebooted by ITV in 2023 with Stephen Mulhern as host. Content creator Helen McPherson, who appeared on the reboot, praised Mulhern: "He is the ultimate professional, but I didn't expect him to be so kind and generous with his time. He would make an effort to talk to us all and he remembered details that I told him about my son."

Deal or No Deal is available to stream on ITVX, while Lynne's episode can be viewed on YouTube.
