Dawn French Reveals Why BBC Sitcom Was Shot in Cornwall

Dawn French has revealed why she requested her new BBC sitcom, 'Can You Keep a Secret?', be filmed in Cornwall. The actress, best known for 'The Vicar of Dibley', plays widow Debbie Fendon in the six-part comedy series.

French explained that she asked writer Simon Mayhew-Archer to set the show near her home. 'Partly because I want to bring more work down to Cornwall and partly because that puts me close to my family,' she said. However, the series was ultimately filmed near Bristol due to studio availability.

The sitcom follows Debbie, who hides her husband William (Mark Heap) in the attic after he is mistakenly pronounced dead, hoping to claim life insurance. The secret puts strain on their anxious son Harry (Craig Roberts), who is married to a police officer.

French praised the cast and crew, saying, 'When you're working away from home, the cast and crew become your new family. It was a particularly lovely gang.' The series premieres on BBC One and iPlayer on Wednesday, January 7 at 9.30pm.
