Danny Dyer has revealed that he goes 'full frontal' in the upcoming second season of Disney+ series Rivals, promising even more explicit scenes than the first. The 48-year-old actor, who plays entrepreneur Freddie Jones in the adaptation of Jilly Cooper's raunchy novels, told Radio Times that the new season pushes boundaries.
'I go full frontal in this series, if they keep it in the edit,' Dyer hinted. 'It's a night shoot, and it was cold, and I'd better not say any more.' He added that there is no pressure on actors to be naked, but argued for equality: 'If a woman's getting her breasts out, why shouldn't I get it all out? I've got breasts as well, to be fair.'
The first season was known for its equal-opportunity nudity, including a memorable nude tennis scene between Tory MP Rupert Campbell-Black (Alex Hassell) and aspiring TV star Sarah Stratton (Emily Atack). Season two, arriving over a year and a half after the debut, continues this trend.
David Tennant, who plays TV boss Lord Baddingham, also shared an injury he sustained while filming a sex scene for season two. The Doctor Who actor said he 'launched' himself onto a wooden bed and 'collided with the bed frame in a rather unfortunate way', adding: 'You can never quite tell when you're going to fall over and embarrass yourself, can you, but you most certainly don't want to do it whilst wearing a modesty pouch.'
The Independent's Nick Hilton gave season two a four-star review, calling it a 'Disneyfied, sexed-up version of the Cotswolds'. He noted that the season sees Rupert returning to his 'wild stallion ways', which serves as 'an excuse to include plenty of thrusting buttocks and heaving bosoms'. Hilton concluded: 'The sex is silly… and never overly explicit, because, at its heart, Rivals is an expensive soap opera.'
