Daniel Ings has confirmed he will not be returning for the third series of Guy Ritchie's The Gentlemen on Netflix. The actor, who played Freddy Horniman, the reckless and unhinged eldest brother in the first series, revealed his departure in an interview with HATC Magazine.
While Freddy appeared in the second series, which returned to screens last month, his role was reduced. Now, Ings has suggested fans won't see him again.
Ings on His Character's End
Speaking about his character's storyline, Ings said: "I'm not in the next one. So that's a fun sense of closure. I kind of see it as closure for the character in a way; it just ends as this wild, broken, crazy, you know. I don't know, probably mumbling into the ether somewhere in the British countryside."
Despite the exit, Ings spoke warmly of his time on the show, describing it as "a lot of fun" and a "great experience" to play Freddy, according to Digital Spy.
Praise for the Role
He added: "I'll always be grateful to have played a part in creating that character. I absolutely loved playing Freddy. When that storyline was presented to me for series two, he was written almost as a completely different character."
Ings explained that Guy Ritchie wanted to move away from the humour with Freddy and tone it down, recalling a conversation at the start of the second series where Ritchie told him the humour went "too far".
Meghan Markle Rumours Dismissed
With the third series already generating buzz, rumours have circulated that Meghan Markle could join the cast following her return to the UK. However, production has quickly shut down the speculation, with an insider telling The Times: "This is not a show in need of stunt casting."
Theo James, who plays Edward, joked: "I think she'd fit in well: wealth, violence and treachery." He also highlighted the practical problems of having Meghan on the show, adding: "Think about it in reality: You couldn't even film. You would have to close down every street on the planet to be able to get something that didn't have photographers all over it."
The Gentlemen is available to watch on Netflix.
