Coronation Street's Sarah 'to frame' family member for Theo's murder as exit 'sealed'
Corrie's Sarah 'to frame' family member for Theo murder

Coronation Street viewers are convinced that Sarah Platt is plotting to frame someone close to her for the murder of Theo Silverton, with speculation mounting that the culprit could be Jodie Ramsay. The dramatic storyline, which has gripped fans since April, may culminate in an explosive exit for the troublemaker.

Sarah's deadly secret

In April, abuser Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) was killed after his reign of terror over Todd (Gareth Pierce) was exposed, sparking another whodunnit on the long-running ITV soap. The list of suspects initially included Todd, Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins), George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley), Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby), Gary Windass (Mikey North), and Danielle Silverton (Natalie Anderson). However, it was eventually revealed that Sarah (Tina O'Brien) had killed Theo after she attacked him with a metal pole on top of the scaffolding. Sarah picked up the pole and hit him over the head, sending him falling over the edge of the scaffolding and to the ground below.

Jodie's threat

On the same night, after murdering Theo, Sarah was attacked by Jodie Ramsay (Olivia Frances-Brown). For weeks, Sarah had no idea who her assailant was until recent episodes, when she became intrigued by Jodie's comments about the night of the attack. This week, after working out Jodie was her attacker, Sarah confronted her. But when Sarah threatened to call the police, Jodie fired back, warning her that she knows Sarah is lying about something the night Theo was murdered.

Since then, tensions have escalated between Sarah and Jodie, something David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) noticed. In Wednesday's episode (July 1), David confronted Sarah, asking what had happened between them. Sarah couldn't tell the truth, as it would mean revealing she killed Theo, and she told David that everything was fine.

Fan theories

Fans are now speculating that Sarah and David could team up to take Jodie down, which could lead to her potential exit from the cobbles. “I think the Platts will frame Jodie for Theo’s murder,” mused one person on a Coronation Street Facebook fan page. Someone else added: “Hopefully!” A third chimed in: “David and Sarah vs Jodie” Another wrote: “Yes especially now David knows something is going on.” A fifth penned: “Maybe that leads to Jodie’s exit? Can’t see her staying on the street after it comes out.”

Actress weighs in

Meanwhile, actress Olivia Frances-Brown, who plays Jodie, discussed her character's troublemaking nature. “Trouble follows her around like a bad smell. She is always caught up in the chaos. Whatever’s going on, if there is any chaos in the street, she’ll probably be at the heart of it. It’s the way that she is. It’s who she is. It’s the way she has learnt to deal with things. It’s the way she goes through life,” she said.

Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
