Coronation Street fans are in for a dramatic week as Dev Alahan and Bernie Winter's wedding day descends into chaos, with the bride collapsing at the altar and being rushed to hospital. The episode, airing on Wednesday, August 6th, promises a series of mishaps before the main event.
The week kicks off with stag and hen parties. Bernie's low-key hen do at the bistro is interrupted by news that the men have hired a pole dancer at the Rovers Return. An enraged Bernie storms in to confront them, but all may not be as it seems.
On the wedding day, the quads fall ill and must watch via live stream alongside Joseph. Bernie forgets her lucky charm locket containing a photo of Paul, and when she returns home to retrieve it, she disturbs a burglar. Back at the bistro, Debbie Webster surprises Ronnie with a proposal during a song, offering a potential second wedding.
As the ceremony begins, Bernie walks down the aisle looking radiant. However, just as they are about to exchange vows, she struggles to breathe and collapses in front of a shocked Dev. An ambulance is called, leaving the fate of the wedding uncertain.
Actress Jane Hazlegrove, who plays Bernie, commented: 'The day goes from bad to worse! That’s what is so brilliant about Coronation Street, you don’t know what you’re going to get until you open the page of the script.' She also revealed her input into Bernie's unconventional wedding dress, a 1970s-style white kaftan inspired by Elkie Brookes and Demis Roussos.
