Coronation Street villain Rupert Copley returns to target George Shuttleworth

Coronation Street baddie Rupert Copley is making a shock comeback after two years off-screen, set to create more misery for Weatherfield residents. The slippery undertaker, played by Peter Carroll, will reprise his role and is expected to target old rival George Shuttleworth, who is considering selling his funeral business.

George, portrayed by Tony Maudsley, has been facing mounting problems. Last week, a judge ruled against him in court, ordering him to pay legal costs after a customer launched a smear campaign. Devastated, George confides in his sister Glenda that he may have to sell the business to rivals RestEasy at a knockdown price.

Rupert's return comes after his 2024 exit, when he attempted to poach Todd Grimshaw as a work partner. Todd has since left for Belfast with conniving Theo Silverton, leaving George vulnerable. With Todd's storyline involving coercive control and abuse from Theo, viewers are left wondering if more agony lies ahead for George.

Tony Maudsley joined the ITV soap in 2020 as George, son of late funeral director Archie. He has since become a fan favourite, featuring in major plotlines. The actor is also known for roles in Benidorm, Emmerdale, and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
