Coronation Street actress Pauline McLynn has hinted at 'life-changing' repercussions for characters as the soap's grooming storyline reaches a climax. The star, who plays Maggie Driscoll, also teased a flashback episode that will reveal secrets from her character's past.
Speaking about the upcoming flashback special, which airs in the lead-up to Christmas, McLynn said: 'We finally find out a bit more about her husband. It's actually very moving when you see what happens in the flashback because it shows the difficulty of being a young mother.' She added that the revelations could have long-term consequences.
On the grooming storyline involving Maggie's teen grandson Will and athletics coach Megan, McLynn warned: 'When the truth comes out I honestly think it's going to be life-changing for everyone.' She described Megan as 'a consummate liar and manipulator' and a 'dangerous narcissist'.
McLynn also shared that her portrayal of Maggie is heavily inspired by her late mother Sheila. 'This may seem weird to say, but because bits of her are so like my late mother, it's like I'm getting to spend time with her,' she said.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
