Coronation Street star Sydney Martin has branded her co-star Cait Fitton her 'absolute world' as the Betsy Swain actress enjoyed the soap's annual summer party in Manchester on Friday night.
Heartbreaking Storyline
It has been a heartbreaking week on the ITV soap, with Betsy being rushed to the hospital, fighting for her life. The teenager was found collapsed on the kitchen floor at No. 6 by Ryan Connor. Doctors confirmed later that she had suffered a stroke, before she had a second one moments after looking to have stabilised. It was after this that doctors confirmed it had been caused by a blood clot, which was the result of neck artery damage from a temporary loss of circulation.
Poor Betsy had to reveal to her mum, Lisa Connor-Swain, that her boyfriend Dylan Wilson had strangled her during consensual sex, despite both believing the pressure applied was minimal. Later on in the week, results confirmed that the stroke had caused aphasia and dysarthria. In scenes aired on Friday (July 18), Betsy was devastated to learn that her mum had reported Dylan to the police, who arrested him. Dylan later told his dad that Betsy could have cheated on him with Brody Michaelis.
Collaboration with Experts
Dylan believes he couldn't have caused the stroke due to the time it happened, still unaware that a stroke wouldn't always occur immediately after the strangulation. Corrie has worked closely with the Institute for Addressing Strangulation (IFAS), The Stroke Association and Safeline on the storyline.
The past weeks have seen Corrie fans full of praise for Sydney's performance as Betsy. Arriving on the cobbles in 2024, the coming weeks and months will see Betsy trying to recover from her health ordeal and get her life back on track.
Summer Party Revelry
With fans glued to their screens, Sydney and her co-stars headed out in Manchester on Friday night for the annual Corrie summer party. Both the younger and older stars got dressed up for the occasion. The likes of Tina O'Brien and Lucy Fallon stunned in their best summer dresses, while Andy Whyment, who plays Kirk Sutherland, rocked a textured button up shirt and shorts.
Taking to Instagram on Saturday (July 18), Sydney shared some snaps from the night out on her story. The first snap saw her posing with Cait Fitton and Beth Nixon. Sydney's two co-stars play Lauren Bolton and Megan Walsh. Beth recently had her exit scenes aired when Megan was found guilty of grooming Weatherfield teen Will Driscoll.
Soul Sisters
A second picture of just Sydney and Cait together saw her brand her co-star her 'whole world'. Sharing the picture to her own story, Cait, who joined Corrie in 2022, said that they're 'soul sisters'. Sydney and Cait are often seen taking part in behind the scenes videos on Corrie's social media channels. One shared at the time of the Theo Silverston murder mystery saw them dressed up as detectives interviewing their castmates to try find out what happened to James Cartwright's character.
