Coronation Street actor Ryan Prescott has opened up about the harrowing aftermath of his character Ryan Connor's acid attack, revealing the emotional and physical toll the storyline has taken. In upcoming episodes, Ryan's character faces a skin graft on his arm and uncertainty over facial burns, leading him to push away loved ones.
Speaking on This Morning, Prescott explained that Ryan's natural reaction is to isolate himself: 'There's a natural tendency to push the people away you love the most when you are in such a vulnerable state.' He added that his character clings to aspects of his life that allow him to deny his new reality.
The attack occurred when evil Justin Rutherford threw acid intended for Daisy Midgeley, but Ryan stepped in to protect her. The soap has worked with The Katie Piper Foundation and Acid Survivors Trust International to accurately portray the long-lasting effects of such an attack.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
