Coronation Street fans have been left reeling after factory boss Carla Connor made the devastating decision to end her relationship with police detective Lisa Swain. Now, the actress behind Lisa, Vicky Myers, has broken her silence on the dramatic split and what the future holds for the beloved couple, known to fans as 'Swarla'.
Heartbreak and Hope for Lisa and Carla
In an exclusive interview, Vicky Myers delved into her character's emotional state following the breakup. She described Lisa as feeling numb and utterly heartbroken, with her world shattered after finding a sense of family and completeness with Carla and her daughter, Betsy.
"Her family was complete as far as Lisa was concerned and then this bomb went off and shattered everything," Myers explained. Despite the pain, the actress made it clear that Lisa's love for Carla remains profound. She emphasised that, for Lisa, the relationship with Carla was unlike anything she had ever experienced, bringing maturity and stability into their lives.
Becky's Lies and a Looming Comeuppance
The central villain in this storyline is Lisa's ex, Becky Swain, who has deliberately manipulated the situation to tear the couple apart. Myers teased that Becky's reign of deception may soon be over, hinting that a long-awaited comeuppance could be on the horizon for the character, brilliantly portrayed by Amy Cudden.
"Everyone loves it when the villain gets their comeuppance so let's hope that is the case," Myers stated, praising Cudden's performance as a "fantastic villain" and a "brilliant wind-up merchant."
While Lisa is currently confused and manipulated by her superior, Costello, who has backed up Becky's false narrative, doubts are beginning to creep in. Myers pointed to a recent Halloween episode where Lisa questioned why Becky was walking around freely if she was supposed to be undercover. As a former skilled detective, Lisa's instincts are starting to kick in, suggesting the truth may soon surface.
An Unlikely Alliance with Kit Green
Hope for exposing Becky's lies may come from an unexpected source: Lisa's colleague, DS Kit Green. Myers revealed that a strong professional trust is growing between Lisa and Kit, and they could be the ones to work together and rumble Becky's scheme.
"I think Lisa sees a lot of herself in him," Myers shared, describing their dynamic as almost sibling-like, complete with witty one-lers and fierce loyalty. She confirmed that Lisa believes in Kit's abilities as a detective, and their partnership will be crucial in the episodes to come.
Ultimately, while the path to reconciliation is fraught with confusion and manipulation, Myers' comments suggest that Lisa's heart belongs to Carla. The love they shared is described as being "too deep" for a reunion with Becky to be on the cards, giving 'Swarla' fans a glimmer of hope amidst the turmoil.
Coronation Street continues to air on ITV1 and ITV X on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8pm.
