Coronation Street star Ryan Mulvey has addressed whether Brody Michaelis will come clean to Carla Connor-Swain about his part in sabotaging Underworld, after the teen was left consumed by guilt over the damage caused to her business.
Brody, first introduced to viewers of the ITV soap last year, was one of the fellow teens at the Secure Training Centre (STC) with Dylan Wilson. His arrival came as Dylan, played by Liam McCheyne, was sentenced to six months in the STC for owning the knife that killed Mason Radcliffe in shocking scenes at the start of 2025.
Brody's Role in the Underworld Attack
As fans will recall, comments Brody made to Dylan about his parents recently moving to Weatherfield linked him to newcomers Mick and Lou Michaelis. After causing chaos on the cobbles, the couple are now in prison, with Mick having killed PC Craig Tinker and Lou for her attack on Gary Windass.
Brody and his younger siblings, Joanie and Shanice, are now in the care of Sally and Tim Metcalfe, but fans have feared Brody could get mixed up in dodgy dealings with the arrival of Idris Nazir in May. Those fears were proven when Idris got the impressionable teen to work for him, and this week viewers saw Brody take on his latest job, with heartbreaking consequences for Carla.
After Carla and Idris were seen having a brief, non-dramatic clash over parking, it seemed to lead Idris to tell his girlfriend, Leanne Battersby, that he'd been eyeing up her business. But when she suggested she couldn't see a time when Carla wouldn't be in charge of Underworld, the cogs began turning for Idris.
Unaware that it was Idris who ruined her client meeting at the Chariot Square Hotel, Carla revealed to her wife, Lisa Connor-Swain, that she was going to have to sacrifice her workers' Christmas bonus if she were to keep the factory afloat. During Tuesday's (November 3) visit to Weatherfield, Carla broke the news to her devastated staff that she was struggling to make ends meet.
Guilt Over Sally and the Ripple Effects
While Carla had her difficult conversation with her factory staff, Idris met up with Brody at the rear of the factory and, handing him a lighter, told him he's got a job for him. Viewers then watched as Brody let himself into No.4 and stole foster mum Sally Metcalfe's set of factory keys, before heading over to Underworld and letting himself in, unaware that Leanne was watching him. Once inside, the teen grabbed a lighter and held it near the smoke alarm to activate the sprinkler system before making his escape through the back door.
It was Sally who raised the alarm, and Carla rushed over to the factory as water rushed out of the building. A devastated Carla headed inside, followed by Lisa, to find all her stock damaged and water flowing throughout the entire building. Carla has since had to tell her staff they no longer have a job, and she can only pay them a month's wages.
Fans have hoped Brody may come clean after he was seen showing his guilt over what had happened, having found Sally crying about losing her job before confronting an unashamed Idris.
"He feels really, really guilty," Ryan said of how Brody is feeling. "I think the worst thing about it is, how it's affecting the whole street. I think he was kind of promised it wouldn't cause such a big deal with the insurance covering it and obviously that's turned out badly and the payout hasn't happened. So I think it's been a punch in the gut to him and a punch in the gut to everyone else on the street."
Brody's Internal Battle
Ryan added: "He feels especially guilty about Sally, she's been like his mother this past year, now what he's done is affecting her, she might lose her job around Christmas and that's going to affect his sisters too if Sally isn't bringing in an income, meaning no Christmas presents for his little sisters. So I think it's a horrible feeling seeing the consequences of his actions and the ripple effects from that. It's sitting very heavily for Brody, he's feeling awful about it and very guilty."
Brody has already threatened to tell Carla everything, and when asked if he will be able to tell the truth, or if he's too scared of Idris, Ryan admitted: "I think it's an overwhelming amount of emotion for him being stuck in the middle between Carla, Idris, Sally and his family. It's a battle he wasn't prepared for and I don't know what he's going to do."
He continued: "There's so many times he wants to tell and expose Idris, but to do that he has to expose himself and there's a lot of consequences that come with that. He's already been in a youth defender's prison, so it's very unlikely he'd come out of this well and he doesn't want to end up back there. He's worked so hard to get a better reputation on the street since he was released and obviously that opinion of him on the street would go down very quickly if the secret leaked. So I think he's in this complete battle with himself for what to do. He wants to do something, but he's stuck in this difficult situation."
