Coronation Street fans were shocked last night as the late Geoff Metcalfe made a surprise return from the dead in a nightmare sequence. The evil character, played by Ian Bartholomew, appeared to his ex-wife Yasmeen Nazir as she struggled with a decision about supporting her new partner Stu Carpenter.
Yasmeen, played by Shelley King, has been torn over whether to allow Stu to move in with her, following revelations that he was convicted of murdering a young girl years ago. Stu has always maintained his innocence, and Yasmeen's family have been trying to clear his name.
In the nightmare, Geoff taunted Yasmeen, saying: "You stupid woman. He's a murderer, he's been sat right under your nose all this time." He added: "And the award for most gullible old fool goes to... Yasmeen Metcalfe!" Yasmeen woke up in shock and subsequently decided to let Stu live with her, despite opposition from other residents.
Geoff died in December 2020 after falling off a roof during a confrontation with Yasmeen. He had previously tormented and manipulated her for years, leading to her stabbing him with a wine bottle, for which she was later cleared of attempted murder.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV.
