Coronation Street fans have demanded Sarah Platt reunite with Gary Windass after her acquittal for Theo Silverton's murder, while Gary awaits his own fate for covering up the crime.
In Monday's (October 19) episode of the ITV soap, filmed in Salford, Sarah was found not guilty of killing builder Theo, having previously admitted to his murder in self-defence. The verdict came after flashback scenes in June revealed Theo had been abusing Sarah's best friend, Todd Grimshaw, and his body was found by Betsy Swain on the night of her mum Lisa Swain's wedding to Carla Connor.
Sarah's Acquittal After Trial
Sarah kept quiet during the murder investigation, which saw several people suspected, including Theo's husband Todd, and Summer Spellman, who spent time in prison for a crime she didn't commit. Eventually, Sarah confessed to Todd and her then-partner Kit Green. Despite the detective's attempts to help, she was arrested on suspicion of killing Theo and later charged, telling DS Lisa Connor-Swain it was self-defence.
After being held on remand, Sarah's trial took place in last week's episodes. This week, following closing speeches from barristers, the jury deliberated briefly before returning a not guilty verdict, much to her family's relief. Sarah was later seen back at home.
Gary Windass Faces Punishment
However, the storyline is not over for Gary. He will face his punishment for his role in covering up Theo's murder in Tuesday's (October 20) episode.
Amid the court drama, fans took to social media with demands. @RyanSoapKing25 said: "Sarah needs to get back with Gary. #Corrie." @Debbie8t5 replied: "Yes, I think she has a good chemistry with Gary." However, @SerikiDaniel shared: "I doubt Sarah and Gary will ever get together cuz there were so many opportunities for the writers to put them together, but they decided to keep them apart," while @matt_johnson_89 added: "Tbh I preferred her with Adam."
