Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor) is left stunned when Tim (Joe Duttine) delivers unexpected news on Coronation Street. After a call from social services, Tim tells Sally she has been cleared of any wrongdoing and that Lucy will be coming back to live with them next week.
Halloween Attack Fallout
The news follows a Halloween incident on October 30th, when a mystery tormenter broke into the Metcalfe house dressed as a ghost. Sally fought back, smacking the attacker round the head with a vase. The masked attacker turned out to be Lucy (Anya Dewin), the troubled foster child that she and Tim decided to take in.
Tim felt an obligation to Lucy because her father Richie (Nathan Sussex) is his cousin. Tim had advised Richie to go home to his wife Rachel, leading to a heated domestic dispute that ended in her murder. Lucy is a deeply traumatised young woman who often reacts to overwhelming situations with anger, and there is a possibility that Lucy killed her mum and Richie is covering for her.
False Accusations
After the attack, Sally tried to apologise, not realising who it was in the dark. Instead of accepting her apology, Lucy claimed the attack was deliberate and motivated by Sally's resentment toward her. A social worker named Ruth descended on the Metcalfe house after receiving a voicemail and a journal from Lucy filled with false accusations and recorded notes, all painting Sally as abusive. As a result, Lucy was temporarily moved to a respite home.
Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins), who is Lucy's secret biological grandmother, is not happy with the situation. Sally has been left feeling under scrutiny and like the world's worst foster-parent.
Return Concerns
Now, at her lowest, Sally gets the shocking news from Tim. In the café, Sally confides in Christina that she is worried about Lucy's return.
