Coronation Street's Debbie Webster is set to make a brutal decision as her dementia battle intensifies, actress Sue Devaney has revealed. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Devaney explained that Debbie has reached a breaking point after months of feuding with her secret son Carl Webster, who has exploited her declining health for his own gain.
Devaney said: 'I think she's just had enough. How more of this can she take? She's reached a point where she's thinking, okay, how much time have I got left? What am I gonna do with that time? Do I want to be fighting, arguing and dealing with people who are lying to me?' The actress added that Debbie realises she cannot fix Carl, despite him being her son, and must prioritise herself.
The final straw could be Carl's destruction of Debbie's hotel and his threat to ruin the wedding of Lisa Swain and Carla Connor, which Devaney described as 'the wedding of the year'. Debbie is devastated by the damage, especially as the wedding was something to look forward to after her time in prison.
When asked if Debbie could turn killer and murder Carl, Devaney noted that people with dementia can sometimes become violent, but suggested Debbie might use words rather than actions. She also revealed that if Debbie's husband Ronnie Bailey or brother Kevin Webster were to kill Carl, Debbie would never forgive them, as she hasn't got time to hold grudges.
Devaney praised the support from fans and expressed hope for more light-hearted scenes ahead, including time with Debbie's girlfriends. 'I'm hoping you see a lot more of the fun side of Debbie for the next few months, with her girlfriends. Maybe going away, having a good time, maybe some spa time,' she said.
