Coronation Street viewers were left open-mouthed as they instantly recognised newcomer Ross Wilkes during Wednesday's episode of the ITV soap. The character, played by Ian Burfield, is best known for his role as DCI Peter Arthurs on EastEnders since 2018.

Cassie's Downward Spiral

In the latest instalment, Cassie Plummer chose to drown her sorrows after her marriage proposal to partner Steve McDonald was rejected. While drinking at the Chariot Square Hotel, Cassie began chatting with a gentleman at the bar. However, the mysterious stranger quickly turned on Cassie and began ridiculing her. The situation deteriorated further when Cassie noticed his name, Ross Wilkes, on the bar receipt, leaving her stunned.

Ross Revealed as Tyrone's Father

In forthcoming scenes this week, Ross proves to be the biological father of Cassie's son Tyrone Dobbs. The revelation unfolds when Tyrone's daughters Hope and Ruby disclose they have a surprise for their father, explaining they submitted a sample of his DNA, tracked down his dad, and he has arrived. As Ross enters the Bistro, both Cassie and Tyrone are left reeling.

Soap enthusiasts immediately recognised Ian Burfield, 61, who is also known for roles in The Bill and recently appeared in Hijack as John Bailey-Brown and The Hack as Sid Fillery. Looking ahead to next week's spoilers, Tyrone begins to bond with his father while Bernie Winter picks up on Cassie's discomfort around Ross. Cassie reveals to Bernie that she is being blackmailed, and Bernie persuades her to confront the situation head on. As the week progresses, Ross makes his intentions clear about forging a relationship with Tyrone, but when Tyrone suspects something is amiss between Cassie and Steve, he is left stunned by what he uncovers. Ross also begins to settle in amongst the locals as he strikes up a romance with Tracy Barlow. However, Cassie attempts to steer Tracy away from Ross, to which Tracy warns Cassie to stop interfering in his life. Later, after being shown the door by Tyrone, Cassie resolves that the time has come to come clean to Steve.
