Corrie fans predict Summer Spellman alcoholism storyline

Coronation Street fans are convinced that Summer Spellman is heading for an alcoholism storyline after the character's recent behaviour raised concerns among her friends. Actress Harriet Bibby, who has played Summer since 2020, has also spoken about her character's future on the cobbles, hinting at a possible escape to America.

Summer's recent troubles

Summer, portrayed by Harriet Bibby, was recently imprisoned for the murder of Theo Silverton, a crime she did not commit. Her alibi, Tyrone Dobbs, initially lied to the police, leaving Summer stuck behind bars. In a distressing moment, Summer considered pleading guilty to manslaughter, devastating her father figure Todd Grimshaw. She was eventually released after Tyrone told the truth, confirming he saw Summer and the victim alive on the night of the murder.

Since her release, Summer's friends Asha Alahan, Amy Barlow, and Nina Lucas have expressed concern over her excessive drinking and partying. Fans have taken to social media to predict a downward spiral. @crazygreeny tweeted: "I think Summer is on a downhill slope! #Corrie." @sarahlawson84 commented: "Summer ‘drink problem storyline’ is hitting its straps #Corrie." @sparkysue wrote: "Summer turning into an alcoholic in #Corrie, another one." @B0BBI3X shared: "I’ve had a feeling the past few days but i think these scenes with summer are going somewhere. #Corrie." @mishybabez_ replied: "I think she's defo gonna have alcoholism storyline the way she's been drinking." @RyanSoapKing25 added: "An alcoholism storyline incoming for Summer #Corrie."

Harriet Bibby hints at Summer's future

In an interview with Digital Spy, Harriet Bibby addressed Summer's potential future. She said: "I think America is always in the background in Summer's mind, it is something she can escape to." However, she expressed hope that Summer would stay in Weatherfield, adding: "Hopefully things will get brighter and she'll stay in Weatherfield but if things get any worse then it might be a little escape route."

Summer's storylines have included numerous dramatic events since her recasting in 2020, and fans are now bracing for what could be a significant alcohol abuse arc.
