Coronation Street fans are predicting the return of two soap icons following Adam Barlow and Alya Nazir's engagement. The couple, played by Sam Robertson and Sair Khan, first began a romance in 2024.
Their relationship was put on hold when Alya departed for a job in Ireland. Behind the scenes, actress Sair Khan took maternity leave and gave birth to her first child.
Months later, Alya returned to the cobbles and she and Adam reignited their relationship, moving in together. This week, the couple took things to the next level.
Proposal at the Rovers
Despite former lothario Adam having planned an elaborate romantic gesture for his proposal, he ultimately got down on one knee at the Rovers, surrounded by his neighbours.
As Adam proposed, the entire pub fell silent. A beaming Alya naturally said yes, prompting the whole pub to erupt in cheers, with Adam declaring: "The next round is on me."
Fans Predict Yasmeen and Peter's Return
Now, with a wedding on the horizon, viewers believe two former Coronation Street icons could be making their way back to Weatherfield to mark Adam and Alya's big day.
Posting on a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, viewers suggested that Alya's grandmother Yasmeen (Shelley King) and Adam's uncle Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) could both be set for a comeback. "Yasmeen should definitely come back for Alya's wedding," said one viewer.
Someone else agreed: "I thought that." A third chimed in: "What about Peter too?" Another fan declared: "Oh 100% it's about time he comes back we miss him! !".
Character Histories
Yasmeen last appeared on the cobbles in March 2025. She made her first appearance in 2014 before departing for a new role at a charity based in London.
Peter Barlow, meanwhile, was born on-screen in 1965 and featured in countless dramatic moments throughout the soap's history. He departed Weatherfield in December 2023 to begin a new chapter in Spain, following a period of poor mental health after he accidentally knocked down and killed serial killer Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce). His marriage to Carla Connor (Alison King) had also been falling apart, prompting Carla to purchase him a one-way ticket to Spain.
