Coronation Street fans expressed anger on Tuesday night as Megan Walsh, played by Beth Nixon, manipulated her mother Janine and teenager Will Driscoll ahead of her trial for an illicit relationship. The disgraced teacher faced court after conducting a relationship with Will, but twisted events to portray herself as the victim.
Megan's Manipulation Unfolds
In the episode, Janine, played by Melissa Jacques, made her first appearance on the cobbles and apologized to Eva and Ben for Megan's actions. However, the couple decided it was best for Will not to meet Janine, leaving Megan seething. Megan then lied to her mother, claiming she was the victim. She said: "Right? I made one stupid mistake. He wouldn't leave me alone! I was flattered, I suppose. He wore me down."
Janine later confronted Will on the street and apologized, saying: "I just wanted to apologise for everything she's put you through. It's unforgivable." She added: "If that's true, it can only mean that she really loved you." This left Will questioning events.
Courtroom Shock
In court, Will took the witness stand and shocked everyone by stating: "Look, I'm sorry. I can't do this. There was no relationship." He added: "She was my coach, and that's all. She's done nothing wrong," as Megan looked relieved. Will's grandmother Maggie was furious, raging: "Explain to me how that nasty little tramp still has a hold over him."
Adam Barlow, Megan's lawyer, was taken aback, but Megan simply said the case would be "laughed out of court." Fans reacted angrily on social media, with one writing on X: "Urghhhh….Megan making me angry, making out she was the vulnerable one, Will is a child…" Another said: "I hope Will gets justice! Megan is vile!"
Viewer Reactions
Fans continued to vent their frustration, with one writing: "Megan is truly showing her true colours now. A true narcissist and a manipulative b****. Even to her own mum. Enjoy prison, hun!" The episode left many viewers furious at Megan's attempts to evade justice.
Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream from 7am on ITV X.
