Jennie McAlpine, known for playing Fiz Brown on Coronation Street, has been confirmed as a contestant for the upcoming series of I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!. The 33-year-old actress was spotted arriving in Brisbane, Australia on Sunday, just days before the ITV show begins.
McAlpine, who has been on the show's wishlist for years, reportedly secured a lucrative fee for her participation. Sources suggest the money may help pay off debts from her Manchester tearoom, Annie's, which she co-owns with husband Chris Farr. Accounts filed in June 2016 show the company was £197,551 in the red.
The actress was granted a leave of absence by Coronation Street producer Kate Oates, with plans for her character to return with a major storyline in 2018. A show insider told The Sun: 'Jennie's been on the wishlist for some time and, after a lot of persuasion, she's agreed to take part this year. Corrie have given it the green light because they've been able to reschedule her storyline filming.'
McAlpine, who has played Fiz since 2001, is expected to be a hit with viewers due to her bubbly personality. The new series of I'm a Celebrity is set to air shortly.
