Chesney Brown is left holding his breath on Coronation Street as wife Gemma Winter receives her BRCA gene test results, with the family fearing the worst.
The Winter family's BRCA ordeal
The Winter family have been rocked this year by the revelation that they carry the BRCA gene, after Chesney's brother-in-law Kit Green was diagnosed with breast cancer. The diagnosis has affected Kit's mental health, his closest relationships and even his job, as he has struggled to keep his condition hidden from his loved ones.
The discovery puts every member of the Winter clan at risk, including Gemma, her mum Bernie Winter-Alahan and nephew Brody Michaelis. Hospital testing has already confirmed that Bernie carries the BRCA gene, and now it is Gemma's turn to get her results.
Chesney's fears grow
Poor Chesney has had enough on his plate already after he was punched by Tyrone Dobbs during a dispute about their kids. Now he is about to face his wife's mortality head on as those all important test results arrive.
There is much discussion of the BRCA gene in the Winter household, as a worried Gemma discusses it with Bernie. Chesney assures Gemma that whatever her hospital results, they will deal with it together. As Gemma takes a call from the hospital, the family listens with baited breath.
Does Gemma have the BRCA gene, or worse still, does she have cancer?
