Coronation Street's Tina O'Brien on Sarah Platt Prison Future After Killing Theo Silverton
Coronation Street's Tina O'Brien on Sarah Platt Prison Future

Coronation Street star Tina O'Brien has addressed whether prison could be in Sarah Platt's future after it was revealed she killed Theo Silverton. The secret was exposed to viewers only last month during a dramatic dinner party hosted by Sarah and her partner, DC Kit Green, with Gary Windass, his wife Maria, Todd Grimshaw, and Summer Spellman as guests.

As expected with that guest list, it didn't end well as Maria accused Sarah and Gary of having an affair. While the former couple couldn't reveal the real reason for their suspicious behaviour, it was confirmed to viewers that Sarah killed Theo and called on Gary for help in covering it up.

How the Murder Came to Light

The reveal comes after Theo's lifeless body was found by a horrified Betsy Swain back in April, on the night of her mum, Lisa Swain's, wedding to Carla Connor. The storyline had already been confirmed in flash-forward scenes aired in the long-running show in February, in which Betsy was being interviewed by police after discovering the dead body of someone she knew.

Eventually, a week after the wedding aired, it was revealed that Theo was the victim, which came after he tried to torment Todd one last time. His death has since triggered a murder investigation, with Corrie confirming Todd as a suspect, along with Summer, Gary, George Shuttleworth, Christina Boyd and Theo's ex-wife, Danielle Silverton.

Sarah's Confession and Kit's Investigation

While what really happened on that fateful night was revealed to viewers in scenes aired in June, Corrie fans later watched as Sarah confessed the truth to Todd, while Kit remained determined to pin Theo's murder on his partner's former flame. According to new spoilers for next week's Corrie, after clocking Gary and Maria arguing on the street, Kit tells DS Lisa Connor-Swain he is suspicious of their behaviour, prompting Lisa to remind him he is off the case.

Meanwhile, an upset Maria confides in Sarah that her marriage is falling apart, which later leaves Sarah telling Gary that she is struggling with her guilt, but Gary begs her to keep quiet, otherwise he could go to prison. Soon, Sarah arrives home to find Kit has cooked a romantic lunch. Kit drops to one knee and asks her to marry him. What answer will she give?

Kit's Plan to Protect Sarah

While we don't yet know how we get here, later in the week, Kit warns Sarah that her freedom is in Gary’s hands and that she needs to get hold of his phone so they can delete any data that might incriminate her. Will Gary give her the phone? It seems so, as the next spoiler tells us that Kit secretly calls the guy tasked with wiping the data from Gary’s phone and asks him to forward any information he can find to his personal email address. On the street, DC McLaughlin tells Lisa that they’re ready to arrest Theo’s murderer.

Tina O'Brien on Fan Reactions and Prison Fears

Speaking about the reaction to Sarah being revealed as Theo's killer, Tina said: "It’s been really good. I’ve had so many people coming up to me in the street, genuinely shocked. I was so convinced that everyone would know it’s me that it’s been interesting to hear feedback—some people were completely surprised, others suspected it, but everyone seemed to love the dinner party scene and the reveal."

When she was asked how she thinks Sarah would cope if she went to prison, the soap star admitted: "I would be very worried for her. She might appear to be a 'soft touch' to hard criminals, and I worry she’d get into problems in there—especially if they found out she had a partner who was a police officer."
