Coronation Street aired scenes on Thursday night suggesting that villain Theo Silverton could escape justice. The scaffolder, played by James Cartwright, has been abusing partner Todd Grimshaw for nearly a year, a storyline that reached a climax earlier this week.
In a special episode, a bloodied Todd gave his account to police after being hospitalised with barbaric injuries. His best friend Sarah Platt tried to help by stealing Theo's tablet, which contained video evidence of the abuse. However, Theo caught her and called the police.
Sarah's boyfriend, DC Kit Green, explained that without proper evidence, Theo could be released within 24 hours. He warned that Theo's lawyer might argue that Theo is the victim and that the situation was a set-up. Todd later told Sarah that Theo will not stop until he has broken him completely.
Theo is one of five potential victims in an upcoming murder plot, alongside Megan Walsh, Maggie Driscoll, Carl Webster, and Jodie Ramsey. Whether Theo will walk free or meet his maker remains to be seen.
Viewers praised the episode for its powerful portrayal of domestic violence, with one writing: 'One of the most distressing, moving and amazing acting I’ve ever seen on Corrie!' Another said: 'It reminded me so much of how I felt 20 years ago.'
