Coronation Street has been taken off air tonight due to ITV's coverage of the FIFA World Cup 2026. The match between Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina kicks off at 8pm UK time, leading to the cancellation of both Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
Disrupted Schedule for Soap Fans
This is not the first disruption for viewers. Over the past two weeks, the soaps have faced a disjointed schedule with time changes and cancellations. Both shows were also cancelled on Wednesday and Thursday this week due to football coverage.
Earlier in the week, both Coronation Street and Emmerdale aired one-hour episodes instead of the usual half-hour to compensate for lost time. Fans can expect the soaps to return to normal on Friday. Emmerdale airs at 8pm, followed by Coronation Street at 8.30pm.
Friday's Episodes
Emmerdale synopsis: Vinny surprises Lewis with a trip to Madeira, but Lewis's anxiety about the spontaneous vacation causes him to pull out. After encouraging words from Ross, he decides to go and plans to meet Vinny at the airport. As he rushes to his taxi, a van screeches to a halt nearby.
Coronation Street synopsis: Recent events make Debbie nervous at the hotel. Betsy informs Carla and Lisa of her decision to study in London. Sam asks to see Roy, and Maria doubts Gary's motive for booking a family holiday.
