Coronation Street: Ian Burfield Joins in DNA Twist

Coronation Street is set for a dramatic week as actor Ian Burfield, known for roles in EastEnders and The Bill, joins the cobbles in a DNA-related storyline. The 61-year-old actor will play Ross, a man who turns out to be Tyrone Dobbs' long-lost father.

Hope and Ruby's Secret Plan

In forthcoming scenes, Cassie Plummer notices granddaughters Hope and Ruby huddled over an email on Hope's phone. When she attempts to find out more, the girls refuse to reveal anything, insisting it's a surprise for their dad Tyrone Dobbs. Shortly after, Fiz Dobbs grows suspicious when she overhears Hope telling Ruby that everything is in place for the following day. When Fiz presses them on their plans, Hope reassures her it's nothing bad — just a nice surprise.

Cassie's Heartbreak and a Bar Encounter

Meanwhile, Cassie decides to go off the rails after feeling let down by Steve McDonald following a romantic proposal. She later catches sight of him helping his ex Tracy Barlow, with the pair appearing every bit the happy couple. Seeking solace in drink at the Chariot Square, Cassie knocks back vodka and strikes up a conversation with a man at the bar, making a move on him — completely unaware that Steve is out searching for her, according to the Daily Star.

The Bistro Bombshell

As the week unfolds, Hope and Ruby's secret is finally revealed. The girls gather the whole family together for a meal at the Bistro. During dinner, they drop a bombshell on Tyrone, revealing they sent off a DNA sample, tracked down his father — and that he's there in person. In a shocking twist, Ross, the very man Cassie had made a pass at, then walks through the Bistro doors.

Surprise Backfires

However, the surprise appears to backfire. Cassie later cautions Ross that Tyrone is set in his ways and unlikely to agree to meet him, to which Ross urges her to make a stronger effort. Elsewhere, liking what she sees, Tracy strikes up a conversation with Ross. When Tyrone and Cassie pop into Speed Daal for a takeaway later, they are shocked to discover Steve, Tracy and Ross sitting together at a table. Left with little option but to sit with them, Cassie grows concerned when Tyrone begins warming to Ross and agrees to meet him for a conversation.
