The flash-forward begins with Betsy Swain in a police interview room, telling detectives that she and Lauren Bolton found a corpse after returning from town. The identity of the victim and the killer remain unknown, with the storyline set to unfold over the coming months.
Potential victims include Megan Walsh, a groomer fearful that her relationship with teenage student Will Driscoll will be exposed; Theo Silverton, who is coercively controlling partner Todd Grimshaw; Maggie Driscoll, who provided a false alibi for her grandson; Jodie Ramsey, Shona Platt's estranged sister vying for David's attention; and Carl Webster, who allowed his mother to take the rap for a killing.
The episode also hinted at motives: Todd clutched a knife while contemplating his freedom from Theo, and Ben Driscoll swore to hurt anyone who harmed his son. With over two months until the wedding, viewers will have to wait to discover who perishes.
