Coronation Street fans have expressed their frustration after the ITV soap confirmed further schedule changes for this week, as coverage of the Fifa World Cup continues to disrupt regular programming. The long-running soap, which typically airs half-hour episodes each weeknight as part of ITV's new 'soap power hour' introduced earlier this year, has seen its schedule altered multiple times in recent weeks due to the football tournament.
This Week's Schedule Confirmed
In a joint Instagram post, Coronation Street and Emmerdale confirmed the schedule changes for the week beginning Monday, June 29. The update revealed that no episodes will air on Monday night. Both soaps will return on Tuesday, June 30, with Emmerdale airing for an hour at 7.15pm, followed by Coronation Street for an hour at 8.15pm. On Wednesday, July 1, half-hour episodes resume but air earlier than usual: Emmerdale at 7.15pm and Coronation Street at 7.45pm, due to World Cup coverage. This pattern continues on Thursday, July 2, with the same times. On Friday, July 3, Emmerdale airs for half an hour at 7.15pm, followed by Coronation Street at 8.15pm.
Fan Reactions
Fans took to social media to vent their displeasure. @sequinn886 commented: "It does my head in that things get moved for football. We are not all fans." @alisha7865__ wrote: "FINALLY I GET CORRIE SOMEWHAT BACK TO NORMAL BUT SERIOUSLY FOOTBALL NEEDS TO END." @missmollybruton posted: "Can football stop messing with my Corrie schedule please." @emiily.kayy pleaded: "Please itv can we upload episodes onto itvx at the beginning of the week and not have this malarkey going on!" However, not all reactions were negative. @ivanarainova99 shared: "At least we have almost every day not only 3 like the past week. I am so glad for this." @kaceyrayhauerking added: "HALLELUJAH. THANK YOU SOAP GODS."
Background on Schedule Changes
Since the start of 2026, ITV introduced a new 'soap power hour' format, airing half-hour episodes of both Coronation Street and Emmerdale every weeknight. The network stated that the change was due to 'viewing habits continue to change.' However, the World Cup has caused frequent disruptions, leading to confusion among viewers. The latest schedule update aims to clarify when episodes will air, but many fans remain unhappy with the inconsistency.
