Coronation Street couple David and Shona Platt are heading for a split in upcoming scenes, following David's drunken attempt to kiss Maria Connor. The drama unfolds as Shona, played by Julia Goulding, returns to Weatherfield after maternity leave.
David has been struggling since Shona left to look after Lily in London, with his son Max facing charges related to a far-right extremist group. Max was recently sentenced to a juvenile detention facility after pleading guilty in connection with a horror stabbing attack on the soap. David turned to alcohol and, while alone in Victoria Garden, tried to kiss Maria, who rejected him.
Shona returns to the cobbles and reassures David she will always be there. However, when Maria tells her husband Gary about the kiss attempt, Gary confronts David in the Rovers Return. Shona is mortified and hurries out. David apologises to Gary, saying he was drunk and regrets his actions. Later, Shona tells David she is leaving him, leaving viewers to wonder if this is the end for the couple.
Julia Goulding recently returned from maternity leave after welcoming a baby daughter. Her previous departure involved Shona being shot, but this time the storyline is more low-key, with Shona leaving to chaperone Lily at a football tournament in London.
